It's been a few days since Japan hoisted the Women's World Cup after a dramatic win over the United States on Sunday. That doesn't mean the celebration for the American team's efforts have slowed any since they returned to the States from Germany.
The American team returned on Monday, and they were promptly given a hero's welcome for their second-place finish in the World Cup.
Goalie Hope Solo and other teammates have been making the various media rounds as well, and the U.S. women's team reminds a topic of conversation almost a week after the tournament ended.
However, that talk hasn't been all congratulatory. HBO's Bryant Gumbel used all of the praise and adoration of the women's team's efforts to question what he thinks is a double standard in the way we view men's and women's sports. He hasn't been alone, either. While Gumbel may have aimed his criticisms at society as a whole more than anything else, there are plenty who feel the United States team choked in the World Cup.
