NBA General Managers, Owners Fined, Penalized if They Retweet or Facebook Poke Players During Lockout

With the lockout officially in effect at midnight Friday, teams are no longer allowed to have any contact with players.

According to ESPN’s Ric Bucher, that includes Facebook pokes, text messages, Twitter replies and direct messages.

The NBA and commissioner David Stern are taking a “hard stand” on all contact between players and teams during the lockout, including contact through social media networks, according to the report.

“NBA GMs/coaches can still follow their players on Twitter during lockout,” Bucher tweeted. “But a mention or re-tweet [will result in a] $1 million fine [as well as] maybe loss of picks.”

He adds that direct messages on Twitter to players would also result in disciplinary action by the league.

This begs the question: How much Facebook poking is normally going on between NBA owners and players?
