Yankees Set Major League Record With Three Grand Slams Against Oakland

The Yankees entered Thursday in second place and headed to Yankee Stadium with hopes of avoiding a sweep at the hands of the Oakland Athletics. And after a rough start by Phil Hughes, and trailing 7-1 after three innings, it seemed like the Yankees were about to be swept away by one of the worst teams in the American League.

So much for that.

The Bombers stormed back to win 22-9 while making major league history by becoming the first team in history to hit three grand slams in a game. Russell Martin, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson all hit grand slams to help the Yankees storm back in an impressive offensive performance.

On a day made for the back page of the New York Post, the Yankees went on a 21-2 "run" to end the game. New York scored five runs in the fifth, five in the sixth, six in the seventh and six in the eighth.

Also, Jorge Posada played second base for the Yankees. Posada, of course, is not a second baseman. It went about as well as could have been expected.
