After scoring two runs with two outs in the inning and Dustin Pedroia on third after a triple, David Ortiz lined a fastball from Jeremy Guthrie down the right field line that appeared to strike the wall below Pesky's Pole in fair territory. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, first base ump Guccione ruled that it was a foul ball.
Terry Francona came out to argue and Ortiz was visibly upset, but after conferring with the other umpires, Guccione refused to reverse the call.
Ortiz ended up flying out to the warning track to end the inning and the Red Sox were left trailing by two runs.
The Red Sox ended up losing by one run and the call may have been the difference.
