FOXBORO, Mass. —Wes Welker got his first real chance in the NFL with the Dolphins, so it might make this weekend's trip to Miami a little more special for the wide receiver.
Welker participated in the Chargers' training camp before being released during cut-down weekend in 2004. He was signed by the Dolphins a couple weeks later and got a chance to contribute more in 2005 and 2006, totaling 96 receptions, 1,121 receiving yards, one touchdown and 3,211 return yards over the course of those two seasons.
"I'm excited to play football in general, so whoever it is across from me, I'm always looking forward to playing the best I can," said Welker, who was acquired by the Patriots in a 2007 trade. "Miami is definitely a place I've been, and got a lot of friends down there and everything, so it's always good to go down there and try to play well."
