Canucks Acquire David Booth From Panthers in Four-Player Deal, Trade Away Marco Sturm

The Vancouver Canucks are serious about getting back to the Stanley Cup, and they've made a big splash to help them do so.

The Canucks have acquired forward David Booth, Steve Reinprecht and a third-round pick in 2013 from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Marco Sturm and Mikael Samuelsson.

Booth tallied only 40 points with the Panthers last season, but he scored a career-high 31 goals in 2008-09. He then missed most of the 2009-10 season after suffering a concussion on an open-ice hit by Mike Richards. The 26-year-old winger only has one point so far this season.

Booth has three seasons remaining on his contract after this season, which pays him $4.25 million a year, according to CapGeek.com.

Reinprecht, a 35-year-old center, had 16-22-38 totals while playing in all of the Panthers' games last season.

The trade means Marco Sturm will be playing for his fourth team since the Bruins traded him last December. He made stops in Los Angeles and Washington last year before signing with Vancouver as a free agent in the offseason. The 33-year-old, who spent five seasons with the Bruins, has yet to record a point in six games this season.

Samuelsson compiled 50 points in 75 games with the Canucks last season and recorded a career-high 53 points the year before.
