Manchester United Offer Danny Welbeck New Contract With Significant Pay Hike

Manchester United is set to offer Danny Welbeck a new contract that will triple his salary. The 20-year-old forward is enjoying a breakout season and his club will reward him with a long-term deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Welbeck currently earns £15,000 per week ($1,226,940 per year) based on the terms of his first professional contract. The Red Devils will bump his pay to £50,000 per week ($4.1 million per season), putting his salary in line with other first team regulars at the club.

This season has seen Welbeck become a starter at Manchester United. He has netted five goals in nine games for the defending English Premier League champions this season. His early-season performances have moved him ahead of Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order.

Welbeck made his debut at Manchester United in 2008. He featured for the club's reserves for most of the next two seasons. His loan spell at Sunderland last season was key to his development as he returned to Old Trafford with valuable EPL experience.

He has made two substitute appearances for England.

Wellbeck is the latest of 14 players Manchester United has signed to new or extended contracts in recent months.
