Matt Moore Featured in Minor League Video Pranking Bullpen Long Before Breakout Playoff Game With Rays

Fortunately for Rays rookie Matt Moore, relievers Brandon Gomes and Wade Davis didn’t intentionally give away the lead in his breakout performance on Friday. Either Gomes and Davis weren’t aware of Moore’s treatment of his relief teammates in the minor leagues, or they haven’t seen a video in which Moore plays a practical joke on his brothers in the bullpen.

Moore is the hottest name in baseball after his two-hit, zero-run, seven-inning performance in Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Rangers. But a year ago, he featured prominently in a playful video about the rivalry between the starters and relievers on the Single-A Charlotte Stone Crabs.

All is peaceful at Charlotte Sports Park, home of the Stone Crabs, except for a feud between the pitchers. Hopefully, the relievers were hungry and had a lot of extra cash on them after Moore placed a call to Little Caeser’s.

Check out the video, shot as part of the “This is Stone Crabs Baseball” ad campaign, below.

Don’t trust that smile, Rays relievers. This rookie starter is not to be trusted.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Well, the thing is, my last start was at Yankee Stadium, and these guys put up two touchdowns by the fifth inning. And, you know, here we are again. After I think the fourth or fifth and we had eight. As a pitcher, you see that many runs, your job is to get your team in the dugout as quick as possible, and the fastest way to do that is to pound the strike zone.”
