FOXBORO, Mass. — It's quickly become clear that the most popular Twitter handle in the Patriots' locker room belongs to safety Ross Ventrone.
Ventrone, otherwise known as @RustyBenson35, has fun with it, and his teammates can't get enough of his commentary, which includes a unique type of humor. Ventrone, whose nickname has been "Rusty Benson" for years, says it gives him an outlet to show his creativity.
"It just gives a different aspect of me, my personality," Ventrone said from his locker at Gillette Stadium. "It's tough to show it. Around here, this is our job, this is our work, so this is all business. I come here, I work every day, but that gives me a little outside, my personality and my life and stuff. That gives me a chance to do that and show that side of me."
Ventrone has gotten some great feedback, both from teammates and fans, and he takes a lot of pride in that, too. And if you're one of his followers, you've gotten a look at his favorite hashtag, "Mr. Really," which typically spawns some of his best tweets.
"I started calling myself 'Mr. Really' last year, just for no reason, really," he laughed. "Real sarcastic, when people say stuff, I'll say, 'Really? Really?' Then I just started calling myself 'Mr. Really' and it took off for me."
