Argentina and Brazil tied 1-1 in their debut at the XVI Pan-American Games Guadalajara 2011. Enrique Nascentes scored the first goal of the game for Brazil and Sergio Araujo evened things up for the Argentines.

Argentine coach Walter Perazzo lined up a small team that tried to steal the ball away from Brazil and it worked, but their strikers, Araujo and Michael Hoyos, were not up to par and easily controlled by the defenders.

Brazil players were very individualistic throughout the match but some of the plays by Felipe Gomes, wearing No. 10 for Brazil, complicated the tight Argentine defense and a midfield controlled by Matias Laba.

There were only a few chances to score in the first half and maybe the best opportunity to open the scoring was a one-on-one between Araujo and keeper Cesar Dutra that was shot wide of goal.

Both teams came out of the locker rooms for the second half looking to secure the three points, and Argentine goalie Esteban Andrada saved his team after a corner kick. On the other side, once again Araujo missed his chance.

Enrique scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute after a run up field between the center backs, and finishing far post low and away from the keeper.

A mistake by keeper Dutra almost gave Argentina the tying goal when Araujo and Nahuel Martinez missed in the area.

But 15 minutes before the end of the match, Boca Juniors striker Araujo made a run into the box and, after a great service, beat Dutra to tie the game.

Dutra denied Alan Ruiz later in the second half and Bueno challenged keeper Andrada as both teams cautiously looked for the win.

Almost at the end of the match, Araujo and De Moura were ejected after both players were involved in a brawl.

Argentina will face Costa Rica and Brazil will take on Cuba in Round 2.
