The New York Mets haven't reached the playoffs since 2006 and have finished in fourth place in the NL East for three straight years. In an effort to rebuild the roster with young talent, general manager Sandy Alderson is willing to listen to offers for third baseman David Wright.

"We will listen on Wright for sure," a Mets official told Joel Sherman of the New York Post. "We know we are not going to win it all in 2012. We have to hope the Phillies get old and we are in position to take advantage of that in 2013-14, and we have to figure out ways to speed the process to get there."

Alderson isn't afraid to make unpopular decisions, according to Sherman, but shipping off the five-time All-Star will be tough to explain if the Mets don't turn things around.

Alderson reportedly has his sights set on working out a deal with the Angels, who currently have young standouts Peter Bourjos and Mike Trout.
