While his playing days might have been overshadowed by the success his brother Greg Maddux enjoyed, the elder brother carved out a solid career for himself over a 15-year span. Mike then parlayed that into a minor league coaching gig and has turned around every pitching staff that he has coached since then.
Maddux oversaw a Milwaukee Brewers staff that posted its lowest ERA since 1992 and helped lower the Rangers' team ERA in each of his three seasons with the team. While he has not yet managed at a professional level, his pitching expertise may be attractive for the Red Sox, considering how the Sox staff struggled down the stretch in 2011.
Maddux is expected to interview for the Red Sox on Tuesday, so here's a little bit more information about the potential skipper.
