Pete Mackanin No Longer in Running for Red Sox Managerial Job, Dale Sveum Reportedly Emerges as Cubs’ Favorite

The Red Sox' managerial hunt likely saw two names dropped from the list of candidates late Wednesday evening.

Multiple reports indicated that Dale Sveum was offered a job from the Chicago Cubs, a job he is expected to take, while the Sox also informed Pete Mackanin that he is no longer in the running for the job.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told reporters at the GM meetings that Mackanin's name was no longer a candidate to replace Terry Francona.

The Sox also indicated that they may now bring in more candidates to interview for the job, as taking Sveum and Mackanin out of the runnings leaves just Sandy Alomar, Gene Lamont and Torey Lovullo as the only candidates to have interviewed for the job.
