Report: Red Sox to Eliminate Medical Director Position

The Red Sox continue the shakeup of their organization, and they’ve started to alter the team’s medical staff as part of the overhaul.

Multiple reports indicate that the Sox are eliminating the position of medical director, a post that has been held by Dr. Thomas Gill since 2005. However, the Sox are reportedly retaining the services of the Massachusetts General Hospital Sports Medicine Group, of which Gill is the head of.

It is likely, though, that Gill is replaced by someone else from MGH as the team’s head physician.

The Boston Globe, CSNNE.com and ESPN.com all cited team sources for the news, and Gill’s exit was orginally reported by WEEI’s Glenn Ordway.

The Red Sox also cut ties with trainer Greg Barajas and strength and conditioning coach Dave Page a couple of weeks ago.
