This is Baylor we're talking about. The university's hometown of Waco, Texas, is better known as the site of the siege on the Branch Davidians in 1993 than for its football accomplishments, of which there are few. The football program was so desperate for success, Baylor was the only Division I school to recruit Griffin as a quarterback.
Baylor is no longer an outpost now that Griffin was awarded the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, becoming the first Bear to win the award. In addition, Griffin adds his name to the list of great athletes who came from humble beginnings, whether from teams that were traditionally terrible or places few expected greatness to come from.
