Cardinals’ Rally Squirrel Gets Baseball Card, Upstaging Skip Schumaker Once Again (Photo)

Cardinals outfielder Skip Schumaker‘s connection to the Rally Squirrel in St. Louis is going to last forever. Or, at least as long as few small pieces of cardboard hold up.

MLB.com points out that Schumaker’s 2012 Topps baseball card will feature just his right foot. The rest of the card is reserved for one pesky squirrel who became a national celebrity during last year’s playoffs.

On the way to another World Series title, the Rally Squirrel was a lasting image after disrupting a divisional round game between the Cards and the Philadelphia Phillies. During a Schumaker at-bat, a squirrel darted through the batter’s box before scurrying away.

That image was captured and will be featured prominently on Schumaker’s Topps baseball card. Beckett.com reports, however, that the card will be a short print. So that’s good news for Schumaker who will get his “own” card, and it’s also good news for any collectors who get their hands on a Rally Squirrel card.
