Matt Cassel Helps Save Woman From Burning House

Matt Cassel's latest contribution went far beyond the gridiron.

The Chiefs quarterback helped save a woman from a fire in her Loch Lloyd, Mo., home on Thursday night, KMBC-TV reports.

Cassel's wife reportedly noticed smoke coming from the woman's house, which is located in a gated community, as well as flames coming from the house's chimney. Cassel then ran to the house, rang the doorbell, pounded on the front door and ran around the house until the woman living there came outside.

The woman said she didn't know her house was on fire until Cassel acted. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incident.

"I know Matt wouldn't want this kind of attention, but I definitely think he was a hero last night," one neighbord said of Cassel's quick thinking.

The Chiefs quarterback — and former Patriots quarterback — made it a point to give credit where credit is due, however.

"I wasn't heroic at all," Cassel said. "I just ran up to the house and alerted them. The real heroes are the firefighters."
