Report: Rex Ryan Cries During Emotional Team Meeting, Feels Jets Didn’t Come Together

Rex Ryan is a passionate guy. So when the Jets lost their third straight game on Sunday, bringing an abrupt end to their quest to reach the postseason, he was a bit emotional.

According to ESPN.com, Ryan teared up while addressing his team on Monday.

However, the term "team" should be used loosely in this situation, as Ryan's emotion was reportedly put on display because he felt like the Jets were not as close as a team as they had been the past two seasons. The Jets, of course, reached the AFC championship the past two years, but they'll be watching the postseason from home this go-round.

"Yeah, he was crying because he loves us so much," guard Matt Slauson said. "He started off calm … and he got really emotional. He put his heart out there, pleading with us, saying 'We have to get better.'"

Ryan said that he felt like he didn't have the pulse of the team like he has in years past. He also said he made a huge mistake when it came to naming captains — one of which was wide receiver Santonio Holmes — and that he won't be doing so next season.

When asked about tearing up, Ryan reportedly responded, "Eh, I'm Irish, what do you want?"
