The Boston Celtics have been on a roller coaster ride so far this season, with stretches of horrid play and at other times looking like NBA title contenders. But through it all one thing has been constant: As Rajon Rondo goes, so goes the Boston offense.
Rondo has been an integral part of the Celtics attack for four seasons now and is widely considered one of the best point guards in basketball. Yet, even with consistent all-star caliber play, there continue to be rumors about his availability on the open market.
The most recent rumor pits Rondo and Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol on opposite ends of the trading block, as reports indicate that the two teams have interest in a possible deal.
The Gasol deal may not be the Celtics’ best move, but all that talk got the old brain rumbling with ideas about possible trade partners for the Celtics, if they are indeed going to trade Rondo.
It’s not to say that any of these deals would ever happen or even be discussed, but the numbers work out and the deals seem at least reasonable for both sides.
