“It feels good,” the AP reports Donovan told Everton TV. “I think there was a point in January where no one was too happy with the way things were going, but the last few weeks have been a welcome change and a lot better, and it’s been a lot more fun to be a part of, for sure.”
On Jan. 1, Donovan joined Everton from the L.A. Galaxy on a short-term loan. He’s been a standout performer for the Premier League club ever since. The club presented him with the award on Tuesday.
Everton has turned its season around with Donovan in the lineup. Of the nine games in which he’s played, the Toffees won four, drawn three and lost two.
Donovan sparked Everton’s previously dormant attack to life, and has six assists to his credit.
He will return to the Galaxy after Saturday’s FA Cup game against Blackpool. This year’s successful loan spell has enhanced his reputation as a top player, and made him a folk hero on the blue half of Liverpool.
Donovan was a hit during a 10-week loan spell in 2010. He appeared in 13 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and adding three assists. He won the club’s Player of the Month award for the first time back then.
