If you didn’t know who M.I.A. was before the Super Bowl, you certainly have a pretty good idea of who she is now.
The London-born pop singer whose father hails from Sri Lanka is one of the most influential people of the 21st century, according to Esquire magazine, and her Super Bowl Halftime Show stunt wasn’t the first time she caused a stir and likely won’t be her last.
Speaking of that one-fingered salute her music video for “Bad Girls” is a big middle finger to the Saudi Arabian government, according to The Telegraph. The Saudi government bans women from driving, believing that if women were allowed to drive, it would “provoke a surge in prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.”
