The most anticipated, and predictable, fight would be against the true champion in the division, Georges St. Pierre. Unfortunately, Pierre himself does not know when he will return to the octagon due to a torn ACL in his knee that was repaired late in 2012. He may not be able to fight again until early 2013.
The best approach for Condit is to fight this summer against one of his main challengers. Condit wanted to get the rematch against Nick Diaz. Unfortunately, Diaz has retired from the sport and he’ll have to keep to his word now that he faced a suspension for testing positive for marijuana.
The next choice is Jake Ellenberger who is now the number one contender after defeating Diego Sanchez in UFC on Fuel 1. Ellenberger will want to avenge his only UFC loss which came against Condit early in his career.
Whatever decision Condit makes, the UFC needs to be careful not to hurry back St. Pierre and get a similar result to the embarrassing showing by Cain Velasquez in the UFC Fox debut, in which he was knocked out in less than a minute by Junior Dos Santos.
