Nem never even got a chance to unpack and decorate his office. He was hired as head coach of Brazilian soccer club XV de Jau on Monday. The third-division club fired him two days later, according to the Associated Press.
The unfancied club lost 3-1 to Brazillian heavyweight Flamengo on Wednesday. Nem took the defeat particularly hard, and was reportedly “extremely upset” after the game. Maybe he knew what was coming.
His employer wasn’t worried about his passion for the job. It was his ability that was the club’s chief concern.
“The team didn’t play well and Nem made poor choices,” XV de Jau president Jose Construtor said. “We need results. I’ll find another coach on Thursday.”
It would be a surprise if this doesn’t set the record for shortest tenure at any job, in any walk of life, anywhere on earth.
