While it's still a distinct possibility that the five-time Pro Bowl receiver finds a new home in free agency, he has been talking with the Colts, according to The Indianapolis Star.
Wayne has spent his entire 11-year career in Indianapolis, earning five Pro Bowl selections and becoming one of the more consistent wideouts in the NFL while playing alongside quarterback Peyton Manning.
It's been widely believed that Wayne could elect to join Manning wherever the quarterback ends up, but Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday afternoon that that might not necessarily be the case, as it has instead come down to what's best for the 33-year-old receiver.
But playing alongside Manning might be what's best for Wayne, as the receiver posted his lowest yard (960), reception (75) and touchdown (four) totals since 2003 this past season in Manning's absence.
The Colts lost their No. 2 receiver, Pierre Garcon, to the Washington Redskins in free agency on Tuesday afternoon, so losing Wayne would leave the team depleted of weapons for next year's quarterback — presumably Stanford's Andrew Luck.
