Chris Gormley of Nipmuc Regional, Isabel Schwartz of Wayland High School Named Student-Athletes for Month of April

Two standout student-athletes were recognized for their performances in both the classroom and playing field.

Chris Gormley of Nipmuc Regional and Isabel Schwartz of Wayland High School were both named the student-athletes of the month for April.

Gormley is a senior standout soccer and baseball player and holds a 3.91 grade-point average. As captain of the soccer team, he helped lead his team to the Division 2 Central tournament finals and was named a Dual Valley Conference All-Star and Central Mass., All Star.

Schwartz owns a 4.6 GPA and is a member of the Wayland cross country, swimming and lacrosse teams.

“Isabel has been quite a remarkable leader in the Wayland school community extending to not just the playing fields or the classroom at the high school, but also throughout the whole school district and the community as a whole,” said swim and dive coach Michael Foley.

Schwartz is a member of Wayland Cares, a group of teachers, students and community members that work to reduce substance use in Wayland. She also started the “Water Warriors” program last spring. Isabel created this program in which fellow high school and middle school students spend time each week teaching over 40 elementary and middle school METCO students how to swim.
