Barack Obama isn’t shy about cracking jokes in public, and he may start fancying himself as quite the comedian after making David Beckham both laugh and blush.
The English soccer star was at the White House on Tuesday with the rest of his teammates as the Los Angeles Galaxy was honored for winning the 2011 MLS Cup.
Obama filled his speech for the champs with barbs and jokes — mainly about Beckham.
After starting by calling the team the Miami Heat of soccer (he meant it in a nice way), Obama mentioned a “young up-and-comer on the team, a guy named David Beckham.”
“Half his teammates could be his kids,” Obama said of the 37-year-old. “We’re getting old, David.”
Obama also teased Beckham about his fighting through injuries while sporting a celebrity image.
“It’s a rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear,” Obama said.
That one appeared to make Beckham blush.
Obama also drew some cheers, too, when he mentioned captain Landon Donovan.
