Dustin Pedroia Looks to Continue Hitting Streak As Red Sox Take On Mariners at Fenway Park

Dustin Pedroia will put his major league-best 14-game hitting streak on the line on Monday night when the Red Sox welcome the Seattle Mariners to Fenway Park for a two-game set.

Weather may play a role in the series opener, but if they do get the game in, Pedroia will man his customary second spot in the Boston lineup. Pedroia carries the aforementioned 14-game hit streak into the game, hitting .350 (21-60) with two home runs and 11 RBIs over that stretch.

The second baseman is 1-for-6 in his career against Seattle starter Jason Vargas (4-2, 2.79). The Red Sox player with the most experience against Vargas, though, is Marlon Byrd. He'll bring a .286 (4-for-14) average with a home run and three RBIs against the lefty into Monday's series opener. Byrd will hit eighth and play center field.

Jon Lester goes for the Red Sox. He's 2-2 with a 3.97 ERA in seven career starts against the Mariners.
