Indiana, Purdue Clear the Benches for Ninth-Inning Rumble (Video)

What better time to throw down than in the ninth inning of a deadlocked championship game?

Indiana and Purdue cleared the benches during the final frame of Saturday's Big Ten tournament championship after a questionable slide at third base.

The events that transpired were rather strange. A Purdue runner got caught in a pickle between third and home, but after he was tagged out, Indiana's third baseman threw the ball away, allowing Purdue to take a 6-5 lead. On the relay throw back in, however, Purdue second baseman Eric Charles slid into third base high and hard, exponentially elevating the on-field tension.

Charles and Indiana shortstop Michael Basil, who was covering third, got into it, leading to a bench-clearing melee.
