Report: Roy Oswalt Was Eager to Work Out for Red Sox, But Would Still Rather Play for Cardinals or Rangers

Roy Oswalt has apparently warmed up to the idea of potentially playing in Boston. However, it still doesn't look like his destination of choice.

Oswalt, who reportedly worked out for the Red Sox last week, was eager to do so, but he'd still rather play for the St. Louis Cardinals or Texas Rangers, according to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

Cafardo reports that the Sox liked what they saw from Oswalt, but that the ball is still in the pitcher's court. As of last week, the Red Sox reportedly had yet to have any contract talks with the veteran right-hander.

Oswalt is expected to join a team sometime in the near future, and whichever team lands him will be getting itself a talented hurler. The 34-year-old went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA last season, but he's a three-time All-Star who has won 20 games twice and has finished in the top five in Cy Young voting five times.

Oswalt is 159-93 with a 3.21 ERA over the course of his 11-year career.
