The former (and possibly future) Celtics teammates made a friendly wager on the presumptive finalists for the 2012 UEFA European Championship. Pietrus disclosed Wednesday at the Celtics practice facility. Pietrus took Spain, while Garnett claimed Germany.
Pietrus would not say what is riding on the bet. He also said he has tried to respect his teammate’s relative privacy while the rest of the world wonders whether Garnett, a free agent, will re-sign with the Celtics.
“We just talk about soccer right now because I don’t want to get into his business,” Pietrus said. “He’s somebody I respect. He’s a great vet. He knows how to handle his own business. We just talk about soccer and how much fun we had this season, and obviously how much he wants me to come back to the Celtics.”
Pietrus, 30, also is a free agent. Teams can begin signing free agents Sunday — which also happens to be the day of the Euro Cup final — so Pietrus hopes he wins twice.
