It sounds like the Patriots and Rob Gronkowski have done some reworking of the tight end's contract, but it's still unknown what that means exactly.
There are various reports that have surfaced, but ProFootballTalk.com reports that the Patriots and Gronkowski have reworked the third-year tight end's contract. According to that report, the two sides have come to an agreement that would replace the final two years of Gronkowski's rookie contract.
CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora also reports that the new deal would extend Gronkowski's contract, which is set to expire after next season. La Canfora also reports that the deal could be done Friday.
However, there are other reports that say while the sides are close, nothing is done yet. Both The Boston Globe and the Boston Herald report that a deal is in the works, but it is not a done deal. Gronkowski's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, denied the news, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Gronkowski's rookie contract was worth $4.44 million, and he would be in line to earn $540,000 this season and $575,000 next season under that contract.
