It's not uncommon for an umpire to make a bad call. After all, they are only human, and humans are prone to making mistakes.
But what if the umpires weren't human? What if they were robots? Or what if Major League Baseball simply did away with on-field umpires altogether and instead relied on replay gurus sitting high above the field in front of computer screens?
So far, it looks as though expanded replay is inevitable — but robots on the field as umpires, or even no field umpires at all? Not too likely in the coming years.
