Charles Barkley doesn’t agree with Kobe Bryant.
Bryant said Wednesday that he believes the current USA Olympic squad would defeat the 1992 Dream Team, which turned a few heads, including Barkley’s. Barkley, a member of that ’92 team, fired back at Bryant in an interview on The Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia, saying he thinks the Dream Team would beat the 2012 team by double digits.
“Oh yeah, that’s no disrespect,” Barkley said of a double-digit victory. “I ain’t got to badmouth them. But like I said, their point guards weren’t going to beat us. That’s a no-brainer.”
In fact, Barkley could only see three players on the 2012 team even cracking the 1992 Dream Team.
“Other than Kobe, LeBron [James] and Kevin Durant, I don’t think anybody else on that team makes our team,” Barkley said.
Barkley also doesn’t understand Bryant’s assessment that the Dream Team was old, pointing out that Bryant is 34 — he’s actually 33 and turns 34 in August — while Barkley and Michael Jordan were 29 when they represented the United States in ’92.
The unfortunate part about this disagreement: We’ll never have a real answer as to which team would emerge victorious.
