Report: Jeff Green Will Sign New Deal With Celtics on Wednesday

A few pieces of paperwork remain, but just about everything else is in place for Jeff Green to return to Boston next year.

Green agreed to a multiyear deal with the Celtics on Saturday, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. Green's agent, David Falk, said the contract will be official Wednesday, when teams are allowed to start officially signing players.

"We've reached agreement in principal for him to return," Falk said. "You see a situation like Jeff's where there's a tremendous level of goodwill that been built up over the last year and half — I've got a long memory. I remember people who treat me well and I remember people who don't."

The Celtics have a history of "goodwill" with Green. Boston drafted Green fifth overall in 2007 before sending him to Seattle to pick up Ray Allen and spark the Big Three era. The Celtics then traded to get Green back in the Kendrick Perkins deal in 2011.

After Green missed all of last season with a serious heart condition, the Celtics showed interest in signing him again. Team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge also had the Celtics remove their qualifying offer for Green, freeing him up to pick another team if he wanted to — but essentially assuring that Green would stay, as he already wanted to be with the C's and was further impressed by the gesture.

Details of the deal haven't been released, but speculation has Green coming back for four years and about $40 million.

Green has averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds over his five-year career, including 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds a game in 2011 with Boston.
