At least that's what one of his teammates thinks.
Darrelle Revis, who has been a bit of a pain in the butt for the Jets in the last few years, is now questioning whether or not his team has done enough to aid its young quarterback.
"You've got to do what's best for the team, and I don't know if we've been wise in that department," Revis told Newsday when asked about it.
Revis has appeared to change his tune some, just a week after calling on the fourth-year signal-caller to step up his game.
"The quarterback needs to take us there," Revis said last week, according the New York Daily News. "We're counting on Mark to do that. If we lose, it falls on Mark. If we win, it falls on Mark. We're very confident in Mark. We're counting on him."
Revis was also asked by Newsday whether or not Sanchez will be able to develop into one of the better quarterbacks in the league with the quality of players around him.
"I don't know," he told the paper, reportedly shaking his head. "I don't know."
While it may not be the place of Revis — the man whose 2010 lockout made a bit of news — to question the front office's decisions, it's tough to say he doesn't have a point.
Sanchez has not had a good preseason, but a lot of that could be attributed to the fact that, well, the Jets offense just isn't very good. They have a lackluster core of wide receivers for Sanchez to choose from, and they've had some real issues with the offensive line. Sanchez has been sacked five times in just two preseason games, and New York is already starting some sort of shake-up by benching right tackle Wayne Hunter in favor of Justin Howard.
If questioning the Jets' complementary offensive pieces wasn't enough of a show of support for Sanchez, Revis made sure to make it known where he stood.
"I don't really know how this is going to pan out," he told Newsday. "I just hope that they do what they need to do on offense. And not to divide this — I'm supporting those guys. I think the only thing you can do is be supportive. Right now it's still preseason."
The Jets have yet to score a touchdown this preseason, with Sanchez completing 13 of 17 passes for just 80 yards. He also has one interception to go along with the five sacks.
But, hey, at least the Jets picked up that Tim Tebow guy this offseason to serve as Sanchez's backup.
