Alex Smith Holds a 49ers Record That Joe Montana and Steve Young Can’t Touch

Name the 49ers quarterback who has thrown the most consecutive passes without an interception.

Joe Montana? Wrong. Steve Young? Also wrong.

The record-holder is none other than the current, much-maligned San Francisco quarterback. Alex Smith marked his 185th regular-season attempt without a pick Sunday, setting the new record.

Young held the record for the 49ers going into Sunday, with 184 passes without an interception in 1993. Montana had 154 straight in 1989.

Smith, in his seventh year out of Utah, continues to not turn the ball over. In fact, last year Smith only threw five interceptions, the lowest by any full-time starter in the NFL.

The 49ers haven't had a regular-season turnover since last Thanksgiving, when Vernon Davis fumbled against the Ravens.

Naturally, of course, expect a barrage of fumbles and interceptions now that this has been pointed out.
