Medvescak Zagreb of the Austrian Hockey League took outdoor hockey to new heights last weekend when the league's most storied franchise took over a 2,000-plus-year-old Roman amphitheater for a pair of exhibition games.
Putting the NHL's Winter Classic to shame, the exhibition games were played at Pula Arena, which is located in Pula, Croatia. The arena, which originally hosted gladiator battles, saw some tamer competition in front of a rowdy crowd last weekend.
According to Puck Daddy, it took six days to transport 150 tons of equipment in order to make everything work. In the end, it was quite the success.
