The Red Sox have promoted Ivan De Jesus to fortify their infield. With Pedro Ciriaco playing the outfield and Mauro Gomez starting at third — Ciriaco has little experience in the outfield and Gomez hasn't played third regularly in three seasons — the Red Sox could use De Jesus.
De Jesus, who was acquired in the trade that shipped Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto to Los Angeles, will give Boston's brass an opportunity to evaluate him for next season.
De Jesus, 25, has played sparingly for the Dodgers over the past two seasons. In 40 career games — 72 at-bats — the youngster is hitting .231 with 15 hits, five RBIs and one steal.
In seven games with Pawtucket, De Jesus was hitting .385.
