Patriots Acquire Wide Receiver Greg Salas From Rams for 2013 Draft Pick

The Patriots aren't done jumbling their wide receiver corps just yet.

After spending the offseason and trading camp acquiring dozens of pass-catchers only to turn most of them loose in recent weeks, New England has acquired a new threat: wide receiver Greg Salas, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Patriots confirmed the move Saturday evening.

Salas has been picked up from the Rams, where he appeared in six games last season and caught 27 passes for 164 yards under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who is now calling the shots on offense in New England.

Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe reports that the move puts Salas behind Wes Welker at the slot receiver position.

The trade comes a day after the Patriots had to cut their roster down. The Patriots announced Saturday that they had also claimed offensive lineman Matt Tennant off waivers from New Orleans and released linebacker Bobby Carpenter to get their roster to 53 players.

Salas, who is 6-foot-1 and 209 pounds, played for Hawaii.
