Steve Young Blasts NFL Over Officiating Mess, Says Player Safety ‘Doesn’t Matter’ to League (Video)

The NFL is the most popular league in American sports right now, and it’s not even close. The league knows this as well as anyone else, and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young thinks that’s the reason the league hasn’t shown much urgency in resolving the referee lockout.

Young now works for ESPN, and he serves as a pre- and postgame analyst on the network’s broadcasts of Monday Night Football. He was especially fired up following the Falcons’ 27-21 win over the Broncos on Monday, going on a rant following the game.

The former 49ers quarterback blasted the league, saying that the NFL’s popularity has put them in a place where they don’t need to care about player safety. People will continue to watch the game no matter what, Young said, even if the league continues to ignore the problem.
