Flanagan sent a letter to Robert Kraft on Tuesday, urging the Revolution owner to consider Fall River as the future home of the team, according to The Enterprise.
“From an embracing standpoint, I don’t think there’s any better region to bring a soccer team,” Flanagan said. “I am very confident that we can beat any incentive program being offered by any other city or town.”
Fall River is located on the border between Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The city is roughly an hour’s drive from Boston, but around 20 minutes from Providence, R.I. It is around 40 minutes south of the Revs’ current home — Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The area boasts a large Portuguese and Portuguese-American population, which Flanagan thinks will come out in droves to watch the Revs.
The Kraft Group is reportedly looking to build a 20,000-seat stadium at a cost of around $125 million. It has held talks with the cities of Revere and Somerville, Mass., but they are not believed to be at an advanced stage.
“There has been significant interest and we’ve been contacted by several communities,” Jeff Cournoyer, spokesman for The Kraft Group, said. “We will continue to vet all opportunities.”
Three cities have shown concrete interest in the Revolution stadium project and the courting of the Krafts should soon commence. That alone ensures that progress is being made toward turning the dream of building a soccer stadium in the region into a reality.
