Grant Balfour Reveals Details of Speech He Gave to A’s Teammates Before Comeback Win (Audio)

Rage. That's the one word that best describes Grant Balfour.

The Oakland Athletics closer is one of baseball's most unique men, and he's also one of the most intense. His entrance has become a can't-miss event at A's games, and as Oakland continues its improbable season, Balfour becomes even more popular.

Whether it's Balfour's quest from the bullpen with Metallica's "One" blaring over the speakers, or his demonstrative actions on the mound, he gets the attention of everyone. On Wednesday  night, with the A's facing elimination, it was time for Balfour to "rage" once again.

That's when the A's closer did his best Hunter Pence impersonation, in an attempt to rally his teammates.

"I was just telling the guys, I just said — and it's no disrespect to anyone — but I said, 'We're going to rock this guy's world tonight. We're going to walk it off in A's fashion. Because that's what we do,'" Balfour told reporters, according to CSN California.

The A's entered the ninth inning trailing by two runs to the Detroit Tigers, down two games to one in the best-of-five series.

"I said, 'Believe it. Believe it. See yourself run on that field. Every one of you, put your mind to it and believe it and see yourself run on the field with a walk-off victory. Just see it and believe it."

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

The A's did just that. As a result, they live to see another day. Game 5 will be in front of a raucous Oakland crowd — ready to rage — on Thursday night.
