Rory McIlroy Wears Clock Around His Neck at Ryder Cup Celebration After Time Zone Mix-Up (Photo)

Rory McIlroy had some issues with time zones on Sunday morning, and it almost cost the golfer dearly.

Luckily for him — and the rest of the European Ryder Cup team — McIlroy was able to get to Medinah Country Club with just a few minutes to spare on Sunday morning. From there, he helped the Euros to a historic comeback, winning his match in the team’s successful attempt to retain the Ryder Cup.

McIlroy explained that he got his time zones mixed up when he went to bed on Saturday night, and that carried over into the morning. Luckily, he was able to get a police escort to the course where he quickly threw on his spikes, rolled a few putts and got out onto the course for his singles match, a victory over Keegan Bradley.

After Europe’s triumphant comeback, they partied hard, as has become tradition for the winning Ryder Cup squad. At some point in the celebration, McIlroy was given a thoughtful little gift. Someone presented him with a clock that was hooked to a lanyard for the golfer to wear around his neck a la Flavor Flav
