Jackie Robinson Tribute Joins Creative History of Great Google Sports Doodles (Photos)

On the whole, Google provides quite the service to humanity. Its search engine is arguably the best for finding all the Internet has to offer, and Google has helped businesses and the average consumer in countless ways over the years.

But if one was to pick Google’s greatest contribution to history, it may have to be the doodles that occasionally appear on the Google home page. Invented as a way to spruce up the multicolored Google name, the doodles have taken a life of their own over the years. Some days they are creative pictures, others a tribute to a great figure in history.

The best days, however, are when Google offers an interactive game.

Google has been up to the task recently with its Zamboni and pop-a-shot doodles, enabling office workers to turn to the arrow keys to watch their afternoons slip away. Google hasn’t been shy about incorporating sports into its doodles, from the games to the greater tips of the caps to amazing athletes.

On Thursday, Google honored one of the sports world’s best with homage to Jackie Robinson. Users can’t swing any bats or slide any pucks on this one, but Robinson’s image was a reminder of how far the game has come, and what Robinson means to the greater sports community.

He joins a long list of great Google sports doodles. Check out some of our favorites.
