The Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) is a premier tournament, but it’s often overlooked because of its timing and lack of star power.
The 2013 edition kicked off Saturday with a pair of scoreless draws that did the ACN no favors. But Muteba Kidiaba came to the rescue and brought the tournament a bit of much-deserved attention with his unique goal celebration Sunday.
The DR Congo goalkeeper marked his team’s tying goal against favored Ghana as only he can. Kidiaba performed a scooting dance move on the ground near his own goal.
We have a hard time describing exactly what it was, so you’ll have to watch it for yourself. We only hope this dance stays on the field and doesn’t cross over into the nightclubs of the world. After all, somebody could get hurt trying this in public.
The ACN may not have as many internationally recognized stars as the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships or the Copa America, but it has a fun-loving spirit that is reflected in the free-flowing soccer on display and the hilarious antics of its players.
See Kidiaba’s video in the video below.
