Vicente Padilla won’t be a part of the retooled Red Sox bullpen in 2013.
MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reports that the veteran right-hander has agreed to pitch in Japan this season. According to the report, Padilla has agreed to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million with the SoftBank Hawks.

Padilla spent the 2012 season with the Red Sox, where he was actually pretty effective. The 35-year-old made 56 appearances with a 4.50 ERA in 50 innings of work. He was fairly efficient, registering a 3.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which was good for a career best.
