When Bruins captain Zdeno Chara handed over his game-worn jersey after the Bruins’ 3-1 season-opening victory against the Rangers on Saturday night, he found an appreciative fan who had a story to tell.
“I introduced myself, the lady introduced herself,” Chara said, according to The Boston Globe, “and she told me she would like to dedicate that jersey to her husband that passed away two years ago, but she was very happy and thankful that we got to win the championship before he passed away, so that was very motivational and obviously inspirational.”
The Bruins have just 47 games remaining in this regular season as they fight for a chance to recapture the Stanley Cup they won in 2011. With inspiration like that, though, it shouldn’t be too hard to power through.
