Moves like this haunt goalkeepers.
Jimmy Howard was holding his own against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night, with the game knotted at 1-1 late in the third period. When the Kings moved the puck around his end of the ice, Howard slid into perfect positioning in the net, spreading his legs and hunching over, with as good a chance as any to stop a score.
But Anze Kopitar was patient when he came at Howard one-on-one. He snuck the puck in the one place Howard couldn’t get it — right behind him.
Kopitar got the puck in front of the crease and worked his way to the left before coming back and tucking the puck into the right side of the net, sending the Kings ahead for good. Howard was left with nothing but a good effort.
