Chalk this one down as a rough start.
According to NESN’s Tom Caron, Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz left the team’s first official spring training workout with a strained hamstring on Tuesday morning in Fort Myers. Buchholz reportedly suffered the injury as we was reaching down for a ball during pitchers’ fielding practice drills (PFPs).
Manager John Farrell told reporters that Buchholz is “day to day,” that the team will “know more [on Wednesday],” and added that the Sox are taking no chances and are being cautious.
Last year, the righty went 11-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 29 starts. The 28-year-old has a 46-32 record and a 3.92 ERA in six seasons with the Sox.
Clay Buchholz strained his right hamstring covering 1st base today. John Farrell calls it a “mild strain.”
