Bill Belichick Is ‘Excited’ About Danny Amendola’s Addition to Patriots

Excitement isn’t the reaction most Patriots fans had at hearing about the signing of Danny Amendola instead of Wes Welker. But apparently that’s Bill Belichick‘s state of mind.

The Patriots announced Amendola’s signing on Thursday afternoon, including a statement from the head coach, which is an unusual practice for Belichick, to accompany the news.

“We are excited about Danny’s addition to our team and we look forward to beginning work with him this spring and into the future,” Belichick said.

Much like Belichick, Amendola indicated just how “excited” he was on Twitter early Thursday morning.

Amendola reportedly signed with the team on Tuesday, which didn’t sit too well with Welker as he sought to hammer out a new deal with the Patriots. Instead, Welker agreed to join the Broncos on a two-year, $12 million deal that would see him catching passes from Tom Brady‘s archrival Peyton Manning.

It hasn’t been usual practice in the past for Belichick to make a statement about a signing, so you’ve got to wonder if it’s at all related to Welker moving on. Either way, the Amendola era is officially underway in New England and it’s time to put the Welker saga to rest once and for all.
